TFRK – Terauchi File Retrieval Kit

The TFRK is an endodontic retrieval kit developed by Dr. Yoshi Terauchi, designed for the safe and effective removal of fractured or separated instruments from tooth root canals.

Kit Contents

• Autoclavable instrument storage cassette

• Polishing rubber (TFRK-P)

• Polishing rubber for ultrasonic tip sharpening
  Designed to sharpen ultrasonic tips and improve their shape and cutting efficiency.

• Fractured instrument retrieval tips – E87, E88, E89

  • E88: A thin, vertically oriented tip designed to create a 90° groove in the inner wall of the root canal.

  • E89: The horizontal version of the tip.

  • E87: A conical tip with a diameter of Ø 0.1 mm. It expands the opening to 180°, enabling the fractured instrument to be separated and removed.

• Micro trephine drill (TFRK-MT)

  • Inner diameter: 0.5 mm; outer diameter: 0.8 mm; length: 25.8 mm.

  • Allows the exposure of the final 1 mm of the fractured instrument.

  • Operates at 600 rpm using a forward-and-backward motion.

• Modified Gates-Glidden Drill #3 (MGG #3)

  • A pilot tip with a diameter of Ø 0.45 mm (blunted), designed to enlarge the root canal in a funnel shape.

  • Operating speed: 2,500 rpm, using a brushing motion.

• NiTi file – K-Endo (K6 N60 2% L25)

  • A flexible NiTi file with martensitic properties at 37°C, a 2% taper, a diameter of Ø 0.60 mm, and a length of 25 mm.

  • Used to enlarge the root canal in cases involving more pronounced curvature (>15°) or when the fractured instrument has a diameter greater than 0.45 mm.

  • Operating speed: 500 rpm.

• Manual gutta-percha removal instrument (TFRK-GPR)

  • Made of stainless steel and equipped with conical “delta cone” tips (maximum diameter Ø 0.35 mm).

  • Enables the removal of gutta-percha, tissue, and residual material from narrow spaces.

• Yoshi Loop (TFRK-L)

  • Designed to retrieve fractured instruments longer than 4.5 mm or in cases where ultrasonic techniques prove ineffective.

  • Features an adjustable loop with a replaceable tip.

  • Wire diameters: 0.12 mm and 0.08 mm.

  • Microtube diameter: 0.5 mm; length: approximately 23 mm.

  • Can be pre-bent to ensure an optimal fit.

• Endodontic micro-explorer (TFRK-ME)

  • A double-ended steel instrument with a sharp tip (diameter Ø 0.1 mm, conical shape, 6% taper).

  • Enables the location of fractured instruments and the bypassing of blocked or curved root canals.

  • Can be pre-bent to adapt to the anatomy of the root canal.
